Both sides seeking to secure their positions as the race for European football heats up

Inter

The Nerazzurri come into this game having won four out of their last league games. Their sole loss was against Juventus in the Derby d'Italia. Napoli's shock loss to Atalanta has given Inter a glimmer of hope to potentially close the gap to three points on third place - provided that, of course, they can beat Roms. After a rough patch, Stefano Pioli has seemingly managed to right the ship and help them chart a smoother course. Pioli, as an ex-Lazio boss, will have his own reasons for wanting to defeat Lazio's arch rivals in what should be an entertaining clash later today.

Although they have won their past two games without conceding a goal, Inter will have to make do without Miranda due to suspension, but other from that, Pioli will have a full-strength squad available. The Nerazzurri have conceded just one goal in their last five Serie A games, which was during their 1-0 defeat to Juventus. However, their clean sheets have come against poorly performing sides like Pescara, Palermo, Bologna, and Empoli, so it goes without saying that managing to contain Roma's red-hot attack will be easier said than done.

The team will welcome Mauro Icardi back after a two-game ban. Icardi has scored 15 goals so far, but he's not just about scoring goals. His eight assists are near the top of the charts in Serie A, and he has contributed more than any other striker in Europe's "Big 5" leagues.

Roma

As for Roma, they lost their last game to Villarreal, but thanks to a 4-0 rout of the Yellow Submarine in the first leg, the Giallorossi are through to the round of 16. Luciano Spalletti's side are pretty much out of the Scudetto race, but still have the chance to win two trophies this season. Next up for Roma will be a clash against Lazio in the Coppa Italia semis, but  first, they will to want to make sure they do not drop points here.

Napoli's loss has given them some breathing room, but naturally, the Lupi would like to make that gap five points between themselves and the Partenopei. However, despite their impressive home record, Roma have not been as solid in their travels. In fact, they have lost five out of their last 13 away games, including a shock 3-2 defeat to Sampdoria. It will be very interesting to see how they cope with an Inter side who have won their last eight at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
