On Thursday, Claudio Ranieri’s run with Leicester City came to a disappointing end. Only eight months after the most remarkable Premier League title win, the defending champions announced that the Italian was relieved of his duties.
With the Tinkerman’s dream reign at the King Power Stadium turning into a nightmare this season, talk of his sacking had been lingering. Nonetheless, the decision by the board to fire their manager despite boasting a great chance of making the Champions League quarter-final can be questioned.
The Times have an interesting scoop on why the Italian was given the boot. According to them, the decision to sack him wasn’t based on the board, but the players who turned on the manager that led them to the league crown.

After the Sevilla game, senior players at the club met with the club’s owners in Spain to express their loss-of-faith in Ranieri. “Frequent and unexplained changes to tactics and personnel” was a huge worry for the players, whilst a change in training and dietary regime was also an issue.
Assistant Manager Craig Shakespeare and First Team Coach Mike Stowell will now be tasked with guiding the club as far away from the relegation zone as possible, being one point of the drop.
