Passions escalated between Tigres' and Veracruz's fans once the game concluded, and the French ace felt compelled to try and calm his supporters.

A shameful incident took place last night at Luis de la Fuente Stadium, as fans from Veracruz and Liga MX champions Tigres fought each other in the stands.

Things escalated after Tigres' third goal, which sealed a 3-0 away win for the defending champions. Fans started a battle that could have ended in tragedy, as Veracruz fans attacked Tigres' supporters with everything they found. A deranged "supporter" even tried to hurt one of Tigres' fans with an icepick.

This is something that has nothing to do near a football stadium.

What really stood out while chaos reigned was André-Pierre Gignac's behaviour, as well as coach Ricardo Ferretti's contribution to end the battle. The striker and the manager passionately demanded police inside the pitch to get in the way to prevent further escalation.
