The Bundesliga giants will host the Gunners on Tuesday, but they will be without two key players.

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost, Bayern Munich not so much, ahead of their clash in the Champions League round of 16 clash. The Gunners will travel to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, with fans fearing the north London outfit will be thrashed.

However, that might not be so, as two stars from the Bundesliga champions have been ruled out of the first-leg meeting. The Bavarians announced a day ahead of the game that Franck Ribery and Jerome Boateng will sit out the encounter.

Of the two players, the French winger appeared likely to be fit. The 33-year-old ace strained a muscle in right thigh during training in January 31, but was tipped to feature in this fixture by Carlo Ancelotti.

However, the former Ballon d’Or nominee has only done running exercises as of Monday, meaning he will miss out Wednesday’s clash. He will be joined by Jerome Boateng on the sidelines.

The German center-back underwent surgery in December which led to a six-week layoff. Since suffering a chest injury, the defender is yet to make his return.

There was good news, though, as Bayern Munich confirmed that the injury scare involving Xabi Alonso was mere precautions. The Spaniard hurt his knee during training and had to leave, but the incident was minor.
