The Liverpool midfielder lifted the prize after becoming a Three Lions and Anfield regular.

On Monday, Liverpool ace Adan Lallana woke up to the news that he was named the England Player of the Year for 2016. The midfielder was named the recipient of the Vauxhall award after a public vote was held.

The former Southampton ace was named the best player of a year which saw the Three Lions endure a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign. Lallana, however, has grown in importance to the Reds and is now a regular in their starting eleven.

In second came Jamie Vardy, the Leicester City striker who helped the Foxes win a remarkable Premier League title last season. Despite his 2015/16 heroics, he couldn’t hold down a regular spot in the Three Lions lineup, and is struggling miserably this campaign, hence him receiving only 8% of the votes.

In third came Man United legend Wayne Rooney, a man who broke two amazing goalscoring records yet still lost his club and country spot along the way. The English striker surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record for both the national side and the Red Devils.

Lallana, who received 39% of the votes, succeeded 2015 winner Wayne Rooney. Adam is also the first Liverpool man to win this prize since Steven Gerrard.

The England under-21 Player of the Year award went to Nathan Redmond.
