The Englishman's time at Old Trafford appears to be over, having broken the club's all-time goalscoring record.

It wasn’t long ago when Wayne Rooney had to go public to deny claims of a move to China. Now, speculation of a transfer to the Far-East is back in the headlines.

According to the Sun, the English striker is ready to quit the Red Devils after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The arrival of Jose Mourinho saw Rooney lose his spot in the starting eleven, and he is now ready to search for pastures new after breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.

A lack of interest from Major League Soccer means a move to the Chinese Super League might be Rooney’s best option. And it won’t be a bad option, as he would become the world’s highest paid player.

According to the report, many clubs in China are interested in the Three Lions ace, and they are ready to offer the 31-year-old a mouthwatering £1m-per-week salary. That would take the Englishman past the current highest-paid player – Carlos Tevez – by a mile.

Rooney has only 18 months left on his deal at Man United. A move to China would land him regular playing time and a hefty raise to his current £250,000-a-week salary package.
