Match Facts & Stats

  • This will be the first meeting between Juventus and Milan since the 2016 Supercoppa Italiana this past December
  • The Rossoneri won that game on spot-kicks, which is their first taste of silverware since 2011
  • Juventus defeated Milan in the Coppa Italia final last May
  • However, the Diavolo beat La Vecchia Signora in Serie A action earlier this season at the Stadio San Siro
  • That marked Massimiliano Allegri's first loss to his former side since being fired in January 2014
  • Milan have not won the Coppa Italia since 2003. In total the Rossoneri have won 5 titles
  • Juventus have won 11 (the most out of any Italian side) including the last two editions in 2015 and 2016
  • New Juve signing Gonzalo Higuain has netted 17 goals in 25 appearances across all comps...
  • ...but none in the Coppa Italia for the Bianconeri so far

Juventus seeking revenge for Supercoppa Italiana defeat

Juventus

Against Lazio, Massimiliano Allegri opted to play Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain, and Mario Mandzukic all together for the first time. It was an unusual approach, but it paid off, as the Bianconeri earned a 2-0 win in a game they pretty much dominated from start to finish. Furthermore, Allegri, having seen his side drop points against Fiorentina in the previous round, was expecting a reaction from his squad, and he got it. So far, no one has been able to beat the Bianconeri at home, who are on a 27 match winning streak in the league. Atalanta did give them some trouble in their last Coppa Italia tie, and Milan certainly will hope to try to cause some problems as well.

It will be very interesting to see what starting XI Allegri chooses to use this evening. After all, the last time the two sides met last month, Milan ended up clinching the trophy. Whilst the Supercoppa isn't in the same category of importance as the Scudetto or the Coppa, it nonetheless still stung La Vecchia Signora to lose and they certainly will not want to see their Coppa Italia campaign ended by the Diavolo today. Especially not at home.

Milan

The Rossoneri come into this game having suffered a 2-1 reversal to Napoli. For the third straight game, Vincenzo Montella's side had to try to come from behind after conceding first. Unfortunately, whilst they were able to do it against Torino twice in the Coppa Italia and again in league play, the same did not happen against the Partenopei.

Milan recently announced the signing of Everton's Gerard Deulofeu on loan, but it remains to be seen if the ex-Barcelona man will be handed his debut. Having beaten Juventus twice already this season - first in the league and then again in the Supercoppa Italiana - the Diavolo certainly would love nothing but to make it a third win across all comps as they hope to take one step closer towards the final.
