Match facts

  • The last time Tottenham traveled to the Etihad, they won 2-1.
  • Spurs were the first team to beat Man City this season, ending their winning streak early on in the season.
  • However, the Citizens have an excellent home form vs. the north London out. They have won five of their last six Etihad meetings, scoring 17 and conceding only six.
  • Tottenham have won only 17 times in 67 trips.
  • Man City have triumphed in 36 of those fixtures.

Two teams enduring opposite seasons lock horns

Man City and Tottenham are opposites right now: one is all but out of the title race despite early hopes, whilst the other recently made their claim on the league crown.

The pressure is on Pep Guardiola. After seeing his side torn apart by Everton, losing 4-0 at Goodison Park, all eyes will be on the Citizens to see how they bounce back. Unfortunately for them, their next game comes against Mauricio Pochettino’s high-flying side.

The Spanish tactician will be handed a huge boost in attack, as signing Gabriel Jesus looks set to make his debut. The Brazilian starlet was signed during the summer, but has only been cleared to feature for Man City recently.

However, it’s in defense where Guardiola will be worried. Kompany remains sidelined, meaning he will have to resort with the leaky Otamendi-Stones center-back partnership.

Spurs have their own worries as well. The north London outfit will be without key defender Jan Vertonghen. Although his ankle injury isn’t as bad as initially expected, he is still expected to miss up to six weeks of action.

Ben Davies and Kevin Wimmer could deputize in the Belgian defender’s absence. Elsewhere, Erik Lamela will also sit out this game as he is yet to overcome his hip injury.
