Match facts

  • The last time these two sides met in the Copa del Rey, Real Madrid progressed.
  • That run-in came back in the 12/13 season, with Celta Vigo winning the first leg – at home – 2-1.
  • Los Blancos bounced back, triumphing 4-0 at the Bernabeu and will look to do the same on Wednesday.
  • Celta Vigo’s last six trips to the Bernabeu have produced six losses, conceding 21 and scoring only twice.
  • Zidane’s boys received their first defeat in 40 games, losing 2-1 to Sevilla to end their record-breaking undefeated run.

Will Zizou select a strong starting eleven?

All eyes will be on Zinedine Zidane ahead of their Copa del Rey clash. Everyone will be watching out for the Frenchman, and how he will respond to his first defeat in 40 games.

Real Madrid’s record-breaking unbeaten run, which began from their Champions League meeting with Wolfsburg from last season, ended against Sevilla. Los Hispalenses beat the league leaders thanks to a Sergio Ramos own goal and a stoppage time strike from Jovetic.

Celta Vigo are not at liberty to rest their key players, which means the only question mark remains over Zizou’s decision. Although the Frenchman hinted that squad rotation is possible, he did little to confirm it.

“You'll see what happens tomorrow,'' Zidane told the club's official website. “It's normal that everyone has an opinion about whether it's better to rest or to keep playing games.”

Cristiano Ronaldo could be handed a breather. Given that he has scored 13 times in his last five home clashes with Celta Vigo, the opposition will breathe a huge sigh of relief.  Gareth Bale, Pepe, and Coentrao remain out for this clash, however.
