Former center back Nemanja Vidic remains hopeful of a Top 3 finish for the Red Devils, if some players can contribute what's expected from them.

After a slow start of the season, there seems to be no hope for Manchester United to fight for the English Premier League title. At least that's what former center back Nemanja Vidic thinks.

In an interview with ESPN, the Serbian defender believes that there is no way for the Red Devils to keep their EPL hopes alive, considering that they're 12 points behind current leader Chelsea.

"Realistically we are out of the title race. That's my opinion," Vidic stated.

But even if his first remark doomed the team's chances of success, there is still hope for them to make their way into European tournaments.

"In recent weeks, the way we have played is encouraging. If we keep playing like that then the top three is our target," the former defender added.

Vidic won five league titles at Manchester United.

After Sunday's draw against Liverpool, it seemed pretty clear for Vidic that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the team's brightest star this season, even if his arrival was questioned last summer. In fact, he suggested that other players need to show their worth in order to prevent Man United from becoming a one-man show.

"He is the one who has been driving Manchester United forward in recent weeks. His motivation at 35 years of age is incredible. Other players have to step up with the goals if they want to keep winning matches. He is playing really well this season," Vidic added.

Manchester United currently sits two points behind Manchester City for the last European competition spot and four behind Arsenal. Their next game will be against Stoke, where they will try to continue their 10-game streak without a loss.
