Javier Tebas turned down the tone of the conversation by admitting there are things to correct when speaking about Spanish referees.

The relationship between La Liga's President, Javier Tebas, and Barcelona's players, has never been all sunshine and rainbows. Mostly because Los Blaugranas claim that there is a sort of persecution against them, so that Real Madrid -the team Tebas' supports- can win the league.

On Sunday, Gerard Piqué vented his frustration due to a wrong call by the referee, who refused to give Barcelona a penalty kick as time expired, preventing a comeback and creating a five-point gap between them and league leaders Real Madrid.

The picture below shows Piqué yelling at Tebas' box, clearing challenging La Liga's main man to do something about the officers in the Spanish top flight.

But Tebas needed to have his voice heard after the controversy. Instead of getting into Piqué's desired war of words, Tebas admitted there are things to correct when it comes to officiating, and even offered the player an olive branch by playing down his statements.

"I don't think I'm that important to have Piqué calling my name out loud. What happened with him had to do with what went down in San Mames last week and during Sunday's game, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. He probably said those things in the heat of the moment, let's not blow them out of proportion," Tebas stated in a sports summit, where he gave a lecture.

"I agree with him, there's a lot of room for improvement when it comes to referees, but Piqué knows that's not something La Liga has to solve. I'll say it again, I don't think he was talking to me, I'm sure he was talking to somebody else," Tebas concluded.
