The Ballon d’Or award is done and dusted, with the coveted prize having been handed to Cristiano Ronaldo for a fourth time. However, another top individual prize remains up for grabs: The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award.
That is the most anticipated, but not the only prize. With FIFA having split from France Football, the football’s world governing body has established their own awards. As with the Ballon d’Or of previous years, a gala will be held. Here are the prizes to be awarded:
- The Best Fifa Men's Player - nominees: Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi
- The Best Fifa Women's Player - nominees: Melanie Behringer, Carli Lloyd and Marta
- The Best Fifa Men's Coach - nominees: Claudio Ranieri, Fernando Santos and Zinedine Zidane
- The Best Fifa Women's Coach - nominees: Jill Ellis, Silvia Neid and Pia Sundhage
- The Fifa Fair Play Award
- The Fifa Puskás Award - nominees: Marlone, Daniuska Rodriguez and Mohd Faiz Subri
- The Fifa Fan Award - nominees: ADO Den Haag supporters, Borussia Dortmund-Liverpool supporters and Iceland supporters

The gala is due to commence in Zurich on Monday, January 9. Kick-off time is set at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET/5:30pm UTC/5:30pm GMT/6:30pm CET.

How will the winner be chosen?
Voting is the way, but it’s more inclusive than last year’s Ballon d’Or prize. It is open to the public to vote, which will make up 25% of the tally. Another 25% will be reserved for journalists, while the same number will be given to national team coaches and captains.
Who is favorite to win the Best Men’s Player title?
Since Cristiano Ronaldo won the 2016 Ballon d’Or, and by a huge margin, putting your money on him would be the safest bet. Antoine Griezmann is also nominated, but he will likely be that hopeful nominee who finishes in third – joining Ribery, Neuer, and Neymar.
