But it’s disappointing news from the Hammers’ Premier League rivals.

Although West Ham have been abysmal this season, Dimitri Payet remains a beacon of light in Slaven Bilic’s dark campaign. As a result, it wouldn’t surprise many if several elite clubs were to go after the Frenchman.

Arsenal are a club linked with the West Ham playmaker, transfer rumors which were sent into overdrive when the player himself publicly admitted to admiring the Gunners style of play. Now, L’Equipe report that the 29-year-oldd is subject to an eventual €40m bid.

Unfortunately, it’s bad news for any top English club hoping to sign Payet. According to the trusted French magazine, the bid will come from his former club Marseille.

The Ligue 1 outfit, currently in sixth in the table, look to return to their good old days; unfortunately, PSG, Nice, and Monaco lead the pack. Marseille, who sold Payet to the Hammers for only €15m, could boost their squad by reclaiming the French midfielder.

Rudi Garcia’s side are willing to offer between €30m-€40m for the Bleus ace. However, the player extended his West Ham contract until 2021 in February, meaning the London club are in the driving seat over Payet’s future.
