Zlatan could have become 2016’s leading scorer, alongside Messi, but was wrongly denied by referee Lee Mason.

New Year’s Eve treated us to several talking points in the English Premier League. Although the highly-anticipated Liverpool vs. Man City disappointed, there was an impressive win for Chelsea and Man United were nearly robbed of a victory.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a lovely acrobatic goal, but saw it wrongly disallowed by referee Lee Mason. Had the goal stood – and it should have – the Swede would have finished the year as 2016’s top score, alongside Lionel Messi.

Mourinho, speaking after the match, admitted that it was a disappointing decision from the match official. However, the Portuguese did not enter the press conference with guns blazing; instead, he cut the referee some slack.
