Liverpool looking to maintain impressive home record

Liverpool

Last season, Jurgen Klopp came in to replace Brendan Rodgers and hence did not get the chance to manage Liverpool for an entire campaign. This time around, the brilliant German tactician has been able to craft his own project from the start. Although the Reds finished in eighth last term, which has seen them miss out on European football, they have really found some form under his guidance. That being said, Liverpool do have some major defensive frailties which have cost them dearly, including a shocking collapse to lose 4-3 to Bournemouth earlier this month. Of course, coming out on top in the recent Merseyside Derby will give them an added boost of confidence.

With Chelsea having secured their 12th straight win, and Manchester City and Arsenal also winning, the onus will be on Liverpool to keep pace with their fellow title rivals. The Blues already have a whopping seven point lead over the chasing pack, but anything can happen between now and May. As for personnel, the biggest absence for the hosts will be Philippe Coutinho, who's out due to a long-term injury. Danny Ings also misses out due to injury, whilst Joel Matip is in doubt.

Stoke City

Meanwhile, Stoke City have had a rough few weeks. And unfortunately, it's not set to get any easier for Mark Hughes's side. The Potters are not just winless in their last three games, but also have another tough tie coming up against Chelsea in a few days' time. To complicate an already dire situation, Hughes is in the midst of an injury crisis. Geoff Cameron, Jack Butland, Ibrahim Afellay, Stephen Ireland, and Phil Bardsley are all on the treatment table. And Marko Arnautovic didn't do his side any favors as the combative Serbian striker earned himself yet another red card, so he'll be suspended for this tie, and leaves Stoke short of a key player up front.
