This means Los Blancos will be free to sign some of Europe’s biggest names.

As was with the Barcelona case, Real Madrid have been handed a huge boost in their fight with their transfer window ban. However, some may say that Los Blancos were handed a more lenient verdict than the Blaugrana.

The Spanish Primera Division leaders were handed a two transfer window ban by FIFA for allegedly breaching regulations for registering minor players. The sanction was meant to forbid the Champions League holders from signing players for two transfer windows, similar to Barca, in January and next summer.

However, an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was lodged. That appeal has partially been upheld, meaning the ban will be for only one window – in January. Furthermore, a fine of 340,000 Swiss francs was reduced to 240,000 Swiss francs.

Real Madrid, who continue to deny any wrongdoing, claimed in an official statement that CAS “lacked courage” to fully overrule the ban. Nonetheless, the decision will be beneficial for Les Merengues. Players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, reportedly on Zidane’s target, can be pursued in the summer.
