The Spanish giants have formally invited the ill-fated club to play the usual friendly match prior to the start of the 2017-2018 season.

First, they donated the entire proceeds from El Clásico's ticket sales. Now, Barcelona will help Chapecoense by playing the Joan Gamper Trophy against them.

Los Blaugranas issued a press release today, revealing that the club has invited the 2016 Copa Sudamericana winners to play the club's kick-off match for the 2017-2018 season. The Spanish giants have already sent the proper invitation to the Brazilian club's officers.

"FC Barcelona has agreed to invite to the next edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy the Brazilian team Chapecoense, who were the victims of the tragic plane crash when on the way to play the final of the Copa Sudamericana in Colombia on 28 November," the press release states.

Barcelona and Real Madrid paid tribute to the Brazilian team prior to the start of El Clásico last Saturday.

In fact, the club revealed that there will be more activities surrounding the match, so that the Brazilian club can benefit from all of them.

"FC Barcelona would like to collaborate on the institutional and sporting reconstruction of the Club, and help to recover the competitive level that it had. The club wants to pay tribute to the 71 people who died in the accident and their families, and will therefore make the 2017 Joan Gamper Trophy a great tribute to the world of football through various activities," the document adds.

Chapecoense will join a list of top-caliber clubs that have played this game as years go by. Bayern Munich, Juventus, AC Milan and South American giants Boca Juniors have all played the friendly match.
