Match facts

  • Barcelona are currently on a three-game winless run, drawing in all of those fixtures.
  • Their last win came nearly two weeks ago in the 2-0 win over Celtic in this very same competition. That was their single win from their last five games in all competitions (4D).
  • Borussia Monchengladbach are in worse form, as they are winless in their last seven games (4D, 3L).
  • Luis Enrique’s men have won their group; their opponents, however, will finish in third.
  • This is the 10th consecutive that the Catalan giants have won their group, and their 13th straight season to qualify for the round of 16.
  • The Blaugrana are yet to concede at home in the Champions League this season, and haven’t lost at Camp Nou since May 2013 (vs. Bayern Munich).
  • Barca’s home record against German clubs is W20 D1 L6.

Two teams in need of victory face of, but who’ll win?

Barca host Borussia Monchengladbach at home, a fixture which would likely mean an easy win for the hosts on most instances. Throw in the fact that the Bundesliga outfit are without a win in seven games, and it would have been a home run; unfortunately, the Blaugrana are not high on confidence either.

Luis Enrique’s boys are without a win in four domestic games, including a Copa del Rey tie. This run stretches back to a goalless draw with Malaga on November 19. Prior to that, though, their performance left a lot to be desired, as they won their three previous league games – at home and away – by a one goal difference.

In La Liga, Messi and Co. faced off with Real Madrid in the always entertaining Clasico, but threw away three points to a 90th minute equalizer from Sergio Ramos. Luckily, injuries are on a low ahead of their Champions League tie, as Jeremy Mathieu (calf) is out and Gerard Pique (hamstring) is a doubt.

Unfortunately, neither Neymar nor Rakitic will be available, as both are suspended. André Schubert’s side also have their own selection headache, as Stindl (suspended), Herrmann (ankle), Traoré (groin), Domínguez (back), Schulz (hip), Doucouré (fitness), Drmić (fitness) are all out.
