Match facts

  • Both Arsenal and West Ham head into this fixture having crashed out of the League Cup on Wednesday.
  • The Hammers, though, are in more need of a victory, as they are only a point off the relegation zone.
  • The Gunners need to improve, having won only two games from six in November.
  • Bilic’s boys won none out of the four they played in that month.
  • The north London outfit are undefeated in 16 of their last 17 ties vs. West Ham in all competitions.
  • Wenger’s side have won all but one of their last six trips to the London club.

Team news – injury woes in both camps

Arsenal need victory. Having lost 2-0 at home to Southampton in an embarrassing League Cup exit, the Gunners require nothing short of all three points in order to maintain confidence and pace in the title race. With Chelsea and Man City facing off in the early kick-off, Wenger’s boys must capitalize from any potential slip-ups.

West Ham are also in dire need of victory. Having won none of their matches in November (D2, L2), they are now hovering dangerously over the drop zone.  Throw in the fact that it’s a London Derby and a home game for the Hammers, and winning is all the more important.

However, both camps have injury worries hindering their odds of winning. The away side are still without Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy, leaving Wenger with little options for a right-back. Santi Cazorla, a player Arsenal have gravely suffered without, will be out for another three months.

Olivier Giroud will not be available for this game, but will likely be fit for the trip to Basel. Elneny will undergo a late fitness test after coming down with diarrhea. Alexis Sanchez is set  to return to the starting eleven.

The home side also have a selection headache. Diafra Sakho is out until 2017, and Andy Carroll – the man who scored a hat-trick in the last West Ham vs. Arsenal clash – is not fit enough to play the whole 90 minutes.
