Match stats

  • Bayern Munich have lost just three out of their last 37 home Bundesliga meetings with Bayer Leverkusen (W28 D6)
  • Die Roten are unbeaten in their past 11 home games
  • Bayer Leverkusen have lost 11 out of their last 13 meetings with Bayern Munich across all comps
  • Bayern Munich have not won a Bundesliga game so far this month

Can Bayern avoid making it a third straight loss across all competitions?

Bayern Munich

It may seem unthinkable, but Bayern Munich will be coming into this game having lost their past two games across all competiitons. The first, a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund is certainly not shocking. However, a few days later, die Roten ended up losing 3-2 to Russian outfit Rostov, who are making their first ever appearance in the Champions League.

Injuries to key players, including shot-stopper Manuel Neuer, coupled with the frigid temperatures that characterize Russia, certainly did not help. The World Cup winner, however, is a major doubt for this game, as are Javi Martinez, Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal, and Jerome Boateng, which will make Carlo Ancelotti's selection a lot trickier than he would have wanted.

Bayer Leverkusen

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will also be looking to rebound in the league. They ended up being yet another side to lose to RB Leipzig in the last round, and that result would have left a sour taste in fans' mouths. For startesr, Leipzig are just seven years old. They were founded back in 2009 and have burst onto the Bundesliga season in unprecedented fashion. And having gone from 2-1 up to 3-2 down, Leverkusen will be desperate to get back on track this Saturday.

However, they have a miserable record against Bayern Munich and have lost 11 out of their past 13 meetings with die Roten. That being said, Roger Schmidt's men had a better trip to Russia than Bayern did as they earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw with CSKA Moscow to seal their spot in the round of 16. The visitors could be without Lars Bender and Stefan Kiessling, whilst key man Karim Bellarbi is a definite absentee due to injury.
