Injuries to Luka Modric and then Toni Kroos – accompanied by solid displays from the Spaniard – have given the former Malaga playmaker the golden chance to win over Zinedine Zidane. However, his long-term future remains a topic for debate.
Once Kroos, Modric, and Casemiro are all fit, Isco will likely return to the bench. Furthermore, he has 18 months remaining on his deal with Los Blancos. Nonetheless, the player himself squashed any suggestions of a Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Speaking to reporters after helping his side triumph over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday in the Champions League, he confirmed that he and Les Merengues are eager to get a contract renewal done and dusted. Isco said (as per Marca):
"I still have this year and next [on my contract], both the club and myself are looking forward [to a renewal] and we hope to sort it out.
"I'm getting continuity now and am happy to help the team."
This will come as a major blow to both Juventus and Tottenham, as the Serie A champions and the English Premier League outfit were two clubs linked with a move for the Spaniard.
