Sealing a win at St. Mary's Stadium this weekend just got trickier for the Reds.

Liverpool will resume their 2016/17 English Premier League campaign on Saturday, as the current table-toppers face a tricky trip to Southampton. A win at St. Mary’s Stadium is never easy, but that prospect has been made more difficult by a worrisome fitness doubt.

According to the Echo, the Reds might be without star playmaker Philippe Coutinho for the weekend away tie. The international break that recently ended saw the Selecao feature in both of Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers.

He played 170 minutes of football in wins over Argentina and Peru, and returned to England on Wednesday night as a result. Coutinho reportedly visited Spire Hospital and underwent a scan to determine whether he can play on Saturday.

Fellow countryman Roberto Firmino is another player who returned to Liverpool late, arriving on Wednesday as well. The Brazilian duo was at Melwood on Thursday, but both sat out the training session. Instead, Klopp handed the Brazilian duo a day of rest instead.

Should Coutinho and Firmino be unable to start, expect Sturridge and Wijnaldum  to partner Sadio Mane in Liverpool’s starting lineup.
