Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have a chance to end the year with a prestigious award before the Ballon d'Or in January.

The La Liga duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been shortlisted for the Globe Soccer Awards Player of the Year 2016 category. The nominees for the award are usually selected by the Globe Soccer jury, which consists of international football directors, chairmen and coaches. Here is a quick look at the four main categories included in this year’s edition of the award. 

Best Player of the Year

Nominees: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, Portugal), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City, England), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid, France), Lionel Messi (Barcelona, Argentina), Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli, Argentina) and Gareth Bale (Real Madrid, Wales).

Best Team of the Year

Sevilla (Spain), Real Madrid (Spain), Legia Warsaw (Poland), Leicester City (England), Molde (Norway).

Best Coach of the Year

Claudio Ranieri (Leicester City), Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid), Unai Emery (PSG), Fernando Santos (Portugal) and Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus).

Best Referee of The Year

Mark Clattenburg (England), Nestor Pitana (Argentina), Alizera Faghani (Iran), Joel Antonio Aguilar (El Salvador) and Bakary Papa Gassama (Gambia).

The award with feature other seven categories namely the Best Kooora GCC Player of the Year, Best Kooora GCC Club of the Year, Best Arab Player of the Year, Best Chinese Player of the Year, Best Agent of the Year, Player Career Award and Best Sports Media Agency. The winners will be announced in an award ceremony that will be held on 27/28 December in the United Arab Emirates.
