The Blues legend revealed this week that he'll be waving goodbye to New York City this year.

Yes, you read the title right. Two years after calling an end to his unforgettable career with Chelsea, Frank Lampard finds himself without a club but destined for a return to Stamford Bridge.

The English legend joined Major League Soccer side New York City – although he enjoyed a loan-spell with Man City before moving to the US – in 2014. However, Lampard will leave the Big Apple once his deal expires at the end of this year.

The midfielder admitted that he would reveal his next destination soon, but gave no hints as to what lies ahead. The Blues, though, have given fans a juicy taste with some recent social media activity.

The London giants posted a revealing comment on Instagram on a post by fan page CFCToronto. The picture showed supporters wearing Lampard’s iconic number 8 jersey with the caption “patiently waiting… the return” to which Chelsea replied “hang in there”.

According to the Evening Standard, a return to Stamford Bridge was always the plan. Chelsea, who are currently performing well under new boss Antonio Conte despite a shaky start, eye either a coaching or an ambassadorial role for Lampard.
