Match facts

  • The Three Lions have lost only twice in their last nine home clashes with La Furia Roja (W7). Those defeats, however, came in their last four meetings.
  • The 2010 World Cup winners have beaten England four times in their last five meetings. Their last loss to the 1966 world champions came in 2011.
  • Spain are undefeated under Julen Lopetegui, conceding only once and scoring 17 in five games.

Gareth Southgate waves farewell to his interim role

Yes, the young manager will be in the dugout for his final game as interim boss of England. However, fans of the 46-year-old need not to despair, as he is favorite to be named as their permanent manager.

The Telegraph wrote on Monday that Southgate will be offered a long-term contract which will see him guide the Three Lions at the 2020 European Championship. The offer will be made after the Spain game, with the score line holding little to no bearing on the deal. Nonetheless, victory is the desired outcome.

Several key names will be absent, with captain Wayne Rooney topping the list. He will be joined by Ryan Bertrand – out with “minor issues” – and Harry Kane who released to continue his recovery from an ankle injury.

Theo Walcott, Jamie Vardy, and Jack Wilshere will be hopeful of a spot in the starting lineup. Sturridge will be confident of starting after scoring in the 3-0 win over Scotland.

Spain also have a few major absentees, the biggest of them all being Diego Costa. The Chelsea hitman suffered an injury last week, with Aritz Aduriz expected to deputize.
