Jose Mourinho wants to trim his squad in January, and there is one player who could feature on the list of players to be dropped.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is already cracking his whip on some of the club’s highest earners. The Portuguese tactician is said to be plotting to drop at least seven players from his squad in January.

German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger tops the list of players to be released when the January transfer window opens. The 32-year-old, who reportedly earns £200,000 a week, has not featured in any game either competitive or friendly under Mourinho’s reign as Man Utd manager. Last summer, there were reports that the former Bayern Munich star was training with Man Utd’s reserves after being snubbed by the new Red Devils boss.

But the former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager decided to hand him a lifeline by inviting him to train with the first-team squad last week. Below is a video of Mourinho explaining his decision to bring him back.

And now, Squawka reports that Bastian is now scouting for clubs in the MLS and is interested in a big-city move, probably Los Angeles or New York in January. Although the legendary playmaker has insisted countless times that he would love to don the red shirt once again, his chances keep getting slimmer every new day under Mou’s tutelage at the club.

In August, Basti, as he is fondly referred to by his fans, released a statement explaining that Man Utd would be his last club in Europe. This revelation has made him a top transfer target for a number of MLS clubs, with New York City FC leading the race to sign him.
