There is some bad news for Spain and Chelsea fans in general - Diego Costa is injured.

Chelsea hitman Diego Costa has been dropped from his country’s squad for the upcoming matches against Macedonia and England. The 28-year-old is believed to have picked up a thigh injury and was not able to attend Spain’s training sessions earlier this week. As a result, the Spanish Football Federation released a statement confirming his departure.

The bullish forward will be replaced by former Liverpool forward lago Apas. The 29-year-old currently plies his trade for La Liga outfit Celta Vigo, and has so far found the back of the net seven times in all competitions this season. Part of the statement released by the Spanish Football Federation read:

"The Spanish-Brazilian, who had been training away from the squad, leaves the camp. In his place comes Iago Aspas, who could make his Spain debut."

The Spaniards face Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier clash in Granada on Saturday, then face England in an international friendly at Wembley on Tuesday. Diego Costa is Chelsea’s top goal scorer in the league this season and coach Antonio Conte will be hoping that the lethal forward will be ready for the clash against newly-promoted side Middlesbrough when Premier League action resumes.
