The German midfielder will miss several games for Real Madrid as a result, putting him in huge doubt for El Clasico.

Toni Kroos’ 2016/17 season has gone from bad to worse, as the German has been hit with another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury over the weekend.

The midfielder picked up a knock in the 3-0 win over Leganes, which Real Madrid have now officially diagnosed. The Spanish giants released an official statement on their website on Tuesday, and it is bad news.

According to Los Blancos, the former Bayern Munich ace suffered a “fracture-avulsion of the base of the fifth metatarsal in the right foot”. Tests were carried out in his home country under the supervision of the reigning Champions League holders.

The Spanish Primera Division leaders did not announce how long the 26-year-old will be out for, but SPORT estimates a six-week lay-off. This means he will miss the Madrid derby vs. Atletico on Novermber 19.

That is not the only key fixture he will miss if SPORT’s estimation proves true, as he will sit out the remaining two Champions League group stage clashes with Sporting (Nov. 22) and BVB (Dec. 7). He is also a serious doubt for El Clasico on December 3.

The trip to Valencia on December 18 might come too early. He will also miss fixtures against Sporting Gijon, Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey, Deportivo, and Real Madrid’s semi-final FIFA Club World Cup tie.

Germany will also have to make do without Kroos for a World Cup qualifier vs. San Marino and an international friendly clash with Italy. Those are the only two games he’ll miss for country, as the next international break is due in March 2017.
