However, not all the nominees had silverware to back their inclusion.

FIFA recently revealed that the new name for their awards will be the “The Best Football Awards”, with France Football ending their partnership and thus taking the Ballon d’Or title.

Football’s world governing body followed that up by announcing the candidates for one particular prize: The Best Men’s Coach Award 2016. The revealed the 10 candidates on Wednesday via Twitter. They are:

There isn’t much controversy in this list, as everyone who deserved to be nominated got a nod. Unai Emery, former Sevilla boss, could have been an ideal candidate but missed out, a rather surprising decision given Jurgen Klopp got nominated for making the Europa League final.

Euro 2016 winning manager Fernando Santos was acknowledged for leading Portugal from a near group stage to the title. Didier Deschamps was also nominated, having lost in the final to Santos in extra-time despite being the favorites.

Zinedine Zidane is the least experienced of all the candidates, but deserves his place after guiding Real Madrid to an 11th Champions League title. This is an unexpected but welcomed rise to fame, having taken over from Rafael Benitez in January.

Diego Simeone also made the cut after leading Atletico Madrid to the Champions League final, which they lost. The Argentine is joined on the list by Claudio Ranieri, the Italian boss who cemented his name in history after winning a remarkable English Premier League title with underdogs Leicester City.

Both Guardiola and Luis Enrique were chosen for their Bundesliga and La Liga success, respectively, whilst Mauricio Pochettino and Chris Coleman were nominated for building young and exciting squads in the form of Tottenham and Wales, respectively.
