The World Cup's all-time top scorer will now pursue a career as a coach; he'll join the German National Team's staff as Joachim Löw's assistant.

One of Germany's World Cup heroes has called it quits today. Striker Miroslav Klose decided to put an end to his illustrious career after four World Cups, 16 goals and a World Cup title in 2014. The 38-year old German revealed the news via the DFB's website earlier today.

Klose will join Joachim Löw's staff immediately, following an invitation from the German manager.  The former Lazio player admitted that becoming a coach had been in his mind for a few months prior to announcing his decision.

"The greatest accomplishments of my career came with Die Mannschaft. That was a part of my career that I think is unforgettable. That is why I'm looking forward to work with the German Football Federation," Klose stated.

His announcement prompted a series of tributes from his former clubs and team-mates. Have a look at some of them.
