Match facts and other historical stats

  • Juventus have lost just two out of their last 36 home Champions League games (22 wins, 12 draws)
  • Bayern Munich are the team that beat them twice during that period
  • Bianconeri starlet Moise Kean could become the first player born in the new millennium to feature in the Champions League
  • La Vecchia Signora are presently on an 18-match unbeaten home streak in European competition
  • Juventus have kept clean sheets in their past three Champions League matches
  • Lyon have a record of seven wins, four draws, and eight defeats against Italian teams
  • On the road, that record is W4-D1-L4
  • Les Gones have lost their past four games versus Serie A sides
  • Juventus have never lost at home to French opposition (ten wins, two draws)
  • Alexandre Lacazette is now 4th on the all-time top goalscorers list for Lyon (with 101 goals)

Will Juventus make their home pitch advantage count?

Juventus

Although they have not been at their best, there are a couple of notable things about Juventus's Champions League campaign and on home turf. For starters, the Bianconeri have yet to concede in this competition, whilst scoring five goals thus far. In addition, they are currently on an 18-match unbeaten home streak and more important, have yet to lose to a French team at home. Massimiliano Allegri's side come into this match having earned a difficult 2-1 win over Napoli this past weekend, and ironically perhaps, it was Gonzalo Higuain to net the game winner against his former side.

The hosts welcomed key midfielder Claudio Marchisio back from a long-term injury, but they will still be missing several notable faces for this game. Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala are still out, while Mario Lemina is banned after his red card against Lyon.

Lyon

Simply put, Lyon are in a funk as of late. Out of their last seven games across all competitions, they have lost five. However, in all fairness, injuries haven't been kind to Les Gones, who only recently welcomed back key man Alexandre Lacazette after a long spell on the sidelines. The French international's recent brace against Toulouse was enough to give Lyon a much-needed win despite having to play nearly 30 minutes with a man down.

Currently on three points, Lyon, who are missing Mathieu Valbuena and Christophe Jallet, sit four behind Sevilla and Juventus. However, they're not out of this competition just yet. Should they manage to prevent Juventus from winning, they will keep their qualification hopes intact heading into matchday five. However, their bad away run, which has seen them lose four in seven on the road could hurt them. After all, Juventus, as noted before have a very formidable record at home and have beaten Lyon 2-1 in their past two meetings in Turin.
