The Serie A giants announced on Tuesday that they have relieved the Dutchman of his duties.

On Tuesday, the confirmation dropped: Inter Milan sacked manager Frank de Boer after only 85 days in charge. For fans of the Italian club, the reason is no hidden secret: the manager lost seven out of his 14 games.

Despite his success with Ajax, the Dutchman could only muster five wins since August, leaving the Nerrazzuri in 12th spot in the Italian top-flight. In the Europa League, they sit dead-bottom in their group.

The club’s Chinese owners, The Suning Holdings Group, acted quickly in axing the underperforming manager. De Boer, who was linked with a move to the English Premier League prior to his San Siro move, was sacked over the phone in a conference call with the owners.

The Eredivisie winner later admitted that the manager in which he left the Serie A club was “a shame”, insisting on Instagram that his project in Milan need time. He wrote:

“It's a shame it had to end this way. To push things forward I needed more time.”

There has been no word on the Dutchman’s replacement, but the club did confirm that Stefano Vecchi will take over as interim boss ahead of their Europa League clash with Southampton.
