Fans shouldn't jump the gun, as their is a logical explanation behind Mourinho's logic.

Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday in what will be a crucial game for Jose Mourinho and his boys in the English Premier League race. Currently occupying seventh spot, the 20-time champions need a win in order to avoid losing further ground.

Unfortunately, the Red Devils will head to London in search of all three points without one of their most experienced and decorated players: Wayne Rooney. The captain will not even be on the bench for the weekend game, as he was left out of the squad all together.

The reason, though, is not that Mourinho has decided to end the Englishman’s Man United days. Instead, it is nothing more than an injury, according to a Man United source (per The Sun).

The 30-year-old picked up a “minor muscular injury”, but that is all the information out there right now. Fans waiting on news of a return date will be disappointed, as the seriousness of Rooney’s injury is yet to be determined.

Regardless of his injury, Rooney was unlikely to start vs. Chelsea, having lost his place in the starting eleven shortly after the new season had kicked off. The Three Lions ace started, though, in the 4-1 Europa League win over Fenerbahce, but has now lost his shot at a cameo against the Blues.
