Both Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao are viewing Saturday’s match as a vital one for different reasons. Jose Mourinho’s Blancos have a philosophy of trying to be perfectionists as nothing less than cup success is acceptable for the club and its supporters. Meanwhile, Bilbao are planning to defeat history and achieve new heights in La Liga standings.

Just as they prepare to challenge Barcelona face to face at the Camp Nou in El Clasico in a few days time, Real Madrid are looking to maintain their current position. They are on top of the league, but thanks to a single point only.

Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao – who cannot boast of an unbeaten record like Los Blancos – are 13 points behind and in 8th position. Will it be realistic for Bilbao to dream of clinching their 6th victory in La Liga this weekend?

Well, that would take a miracle – in order words, something unusual. Real Madrid keep a 100% record at the Santiago Bernabeu in all competitions this season, so this gives reason for pundits to tip Los Blancos for yet another victory against Bilbao. Moreover, they have a good record at home to Los Leones.

Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao want to put an end to their terrible away form this season in La Liga with what would be a rare victory against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Ahead of Saturday’s match, Coach Joaquin Caparros made these remarks according to the club’s official website.

“We’ll need to produce a great performance to break this record – not just our record at the Santiago Bernabeu, but away from home in general.

“We’re ready to put up a good show of football. Hopefully, all will go as planned.”

But hope may not be enough for Athletic Bilbao to defeat Real Madrid in the Spanish capital on Saturday night. Los Blancos are also hopeful of a victory besides the immense talent that they possess. As defender Marcelo explained, the mission is to win although their opponents may be tough this weekend.

“Real Madrid are always favored to win. Losing has never crossed our minds. Thanks to our hard work, it never happens,” the Brazilian told Real Madrid’s official website.

“Athletic Bilbao are a good team. But, we have also improved in all areas. I hope we win. It will be even better if it’s through a goal scored by me.”

Real Madrid could open up a four-point gap at the top of La Liga table ahead of El Clasico which will come up on November 29. Blancos fans will hope that the minds of Real Madrid’s players won’t be distracted during the Athletic Bilbao match, though.
