Sorry, Chelsea: the Italian defender doesn't want Stamford Bridge.

Leonardo Bonucci is currently one of the world’s best defenders; that’s why it comes as little surprise that he is highly-sought after.

His biggest admirer appear to be none other than Chelsea, were former Juventus boss Antonio Conte hold the managerial seat.

It has now recently emerged that the Italian defender was interested in moving to the English Premier League over the summer, but his dream destination was not Stamford Bridge.

Instead, Bonucci was keen on working under Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard took over Man City from Chilean tactician Manuel Pellegrini.

This is according to the Citizens’ CEO Ferran Soriano, who claims that the player himself contacted the English Premier League outfit in order to inquire about a move to the Etihad.

Speaking to RAC1, Soriano said (as per the Mirror): "At the moment there are a lot of players that want to play under Pep," Soriano revealed.

"The Italian central defender [Leo] Bonucci wants to play for him and he called us."

So this raises the question: why didn’t Man City sign Bonucci over the summer? Even though they eventually ended up with John Stones, the Englishman is not match to the Italian.

Soriano opened up as to why a move never went through, lamenting Juventus’ unwillingness to do business as the decisive factor.

"I called the Juventus sporting director and he told me they didn't want to sell. There ended the story!"
