Match facts and other historical stats

  • This is the first ever meeting between Borussia Dortmund and Sporting CP
  • Sporting CP have conceded 10 goals in their last six matches
  • Andre Schürrle - should he recover in time to feature - is the first German player to score for four different sides in the Champions League
  • Sporting CP have won just two out of their last 12 home matches against German opposition (five losses and five draws)
  • Die Schwarzgelben have lost only one out of their last nine road European fixtures dating back to last season (six wins and two draws)
  • Dortmund's away record against Portuguese sides is one win, and three losses

Can die Schwarzgelben get back on track and earn a long-awaited victory?

Although they set a new club record for most home games unbeaten (25), Dortmund were left quite frustrated from the results in their game this past weekend. Die Schwarzgelben had to settle for a one-all draw with Hertha Berlin, meaning that they are now winless in their last three games across all competitions. With Real Madrid pretty much guaranteed to pick up a win - barring a surprise collapse - from their game against Legia Warsaw, the onus will be on Thomas Tuchel's side to make sure they do not drop any valuable points here.

However, complicating things for die Schwarzgelben is their growing injury list. Neven Subotic, Marco Reus, Sokratis and Marcel Schmelzer are all definitely unavailable. Meanwhile, Andre  Schürrle, Erik Durm, Lukasz Piszczek, Sven Bender, Adrián Ramos, Gonzalo Castro, and Raphael Guerreiro are among those all listed as doubtful for this game, but of course this could change depending on who passes a late fitness test. Whatever the outcome, Tuchel will have to re-shuffle his squad and do the best he can to make sure they head back to Germany with at least a point in hand.

Meanwhile, Sporting CP have managed to win their last nine home games across all comps. Still, they have a bad home record against Bundesliga sides, with just two wins in their past 12 games and naturally will be looking to take advantage of Dortmund's injury woes to end their own German hoodoo.
