The German midfielder signed a contract that will link him to Los Blancos until the end of the 2021-2022 season.

Toni Kroos became the German player with the highest salary in European football today, as he signed a contract extension that will keep him playing in the Spanish capital for the next six years. Kroos was supposed to be one of Pep Guardiola's primary targets, but Los Blancos' front office decided to play it safe and offered a lucrative deal for the talented midfielder.

Speaking in a press conference, the German midfielder admitted that he's toyed with the idea of Real Madrid being his last professional team.

"Yes, that's my idea. I plan to retire here. I don't enter into such an agreement out of whim. I'm sure of what I'm doing. When this deal is over, I'll be 32 years old, and if the team's happy with what I'm doing, then we can look into extending my deal a bit longer. I've been playing top-flight football since I was 17, and I plan to retire on a high, which is why I'm thinking to call it quits when I'm 35 or 36," Kroos stated.

Kroos has handed 20 assists since joining Real Madrid.

The German international admitted there's still one trophy he wants to win with Los Blancos, and he wants to do it as soon as possible.

"I want to win La Liga. We've won the UEFA Champions League twice, and we have what it takes to win the league. We sometimes are not consistent enough, that's what we've been missing. But I'm sure I will win the league with Real Madrid soon," the midfielder added.

Los Blancos will try to end their four-game winless streak this Saturday when they face Betis.
