The Mexican midfielder has emerged as the next piece in Jose Mourinho's puzzle. Here's a quick look at his stats and his performances for Porto and El Tri.

Mexican midfielder Héctor Herrera has been linked to Manchester United as a possible transfer target this winter. As of now, the player's agent has revealed José Mourinho requested his bosses to add the talented Mexican to the team's roster, but who is he exactly, and how did he catch Mourinho's eye?

The 26-year old midfielder had a late start in professional football, mostly because he was denied the opportunity to shine during his first years in the Mexican top flight. The player even admitted once he was considering retirement, until a call from his homegrown team, Pachuca, changed his life.

His breakthrough came during the summer of 2012, when he led Mexico to win the Toulon tournament with the U-23 squad. Later that year, Herrera would be key to help El Tri win the Gold Medal in the 2012 Olympics. One year later, he joined The Dragons, where he has scored 22 goals and handed out 22 assists in 178 games played across all competitions.

He was also included in the 2014 World Cup squad, where he was selected to the Group Stage's Best XI.

Herrera is well known in his home country for his impressive passing skills.

His long-range shots have only gotten better as years go by.

Juventus seemed to be one of his potential destinations last summer, where he was supposed to become Paul Pogba's replacement. Now, fate could have both of them playing for the Red Devils.
