Real Madrid will have to manage without their captain for a while.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have suffered a huge blow, as it was confirmed that their captain Sergio Ramos suffered a knee ligament sprain.

The Furia Roja center-back, who reported for international duty during the ongoing break from club football, was taken off the pitch in the 80th minute after enduring an awkward fall.

The incident occurred during Spain’s World Cup qualifying clash with Albania, which the 2008 and 2012 European Champions winners won 2-0.

Los Blancos later revealed that his injury is a grade two tear of his medial collateral ligament, one that will likely earn the 30-year-old a month to six weeks on the sidelines.

The international break is wrapping up; as a result, Ramos’ injury will bear little effect on the national side, albeit he could miss their clash with Macedonia on November 12.

Who stand to lose the most is Les Merengues, as the Champions League holders have a run of important fixtures coming up in the next 4-6 weeks.

Of all the games Ramos stands to miss, Real Madrid’s clash with neighbors Atletico Madrid is the most crucial. That game is, furthermore, followed by another key clash away to Sporting Lisbon in Europe.

If his layoff is only a month, then the center-back could easily feature in both of the aforementioned games.
