Team news – Cristiano is back!

It has been three months since Cristiano Ronaldo last featured for his national side, captaining them into the Euro 2016 final. Although the 31-year-old left the pitch in the first half through injury, his presence was felt from the dugout, shouting with an ice pack on his knee.

He subsequently missed Real Madrid’s opening games, and Portugal’s World Cup qualifiers opener, which they lost 2-0 to Switzerland.

Although the three-time Ballon d’Or winner is yet to hit top form, or out-of-this-world form for normal players, Fernando Santos couldn’t hold back his joy at having his skipper back.

"Portugal are always an offensive team. With Cristiano any team gets stronger and Portugal is stronger," he said (as per Euro Sport).

Fernando Santos will have to make do without Nani – injured. The Valencia ace, Portugal’s vice-captain, was replaced by Benfica attacker Pizzi. However, the European giants remain favorites to walk away with all three points.

Regardless, their manager was adamant that neither he nor his players should take the clash with Andorra – or any other minnows – easily.

"Portugal are a favourite and we have a very clear goal, which is to be present at the World Cup. We want to qualify ourselves [in] first [place] and depend only on us,” the 61-year-old said.

"All games have the same degree of importance, the opponent's name does not have any interest for us.

"Our players know all of the details of the Andorra team, and that they will be playing with almost all of their players on the defensive.

"We must have a good circulation of the ball and pass quickly, but without being in a hurry because that way you can fall apart."
