Wenger’s reign at Arsenal turns 20!

It’s an amazing feat given the number of managers that have come and gone since Wenger took over, as it has now been 20 years since “Arsene who?” headlined the English newspapers.

October 1 marks 20 years since the Frenchman was appointed Gunners boss, and since then, the club and manager have been through trials and tribulation.

The anniversary comes on the eve of Sunday’s game. Speaking ahead of the tie, Le Prof confessed to being “privileged” due to his longevity and achievements with the club.

“It’s very emotional because I’ve seen all my special moments from my time at Arsenal,” Arsenal’s official website quote Wenger as saying.

“You see the players who have had a special impact on the history of the club, all the special moments they’ve produced. You see yourself starting at the club as well, and a few wrinkles later you’re still here and still capable of fighting.

“It’s a privilege. It’s my life. Twenty years in a professional career is amazing. We go just game by game but when you look back you see that you have come a long way. It also reminds you that the club has moved forward. It has come from a normal shop to a big supermarket, a world market. For me to go through this history has been a privilege.”

Winning on Sunday will be the cherry on the cake of what has been a remarkable weekend for the long-serving manager. Handing the Emirates Stadium side a huge boost, they could welcome back Francis Coquelin to the squad after missing out in their Champions League tie.

However, striker Olivier Giroud (toe) hasn’t fully recovered. He is joined on the sidelines by Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Per Mertesacker, Danny Welbeck and Carl Jenkinson (all knee).

Burnley will be without Andre Gray due to suspension, whilst striker Ashley Barnes continues his fight with a hamstring injury.
