Teams news – No Giroud, no problem

Arsenal host Basel on Wednesday, but will be without key attacker Olivier Giroud. Although the Frenchman was never likely to start, as Alexis Sanchez is Wenger’s preferred lone striker, Olivier could have proven vital when in need of a super-sub.

The reason why the 29-year-old won’t participate is due to suspension, having been sent off late – during stoppage time – in the 1-1 draw away to Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Regardless, the Gunners can remain confident given Alexis’ sizzling form – scoring five in all competitions for Arsenal. Then there is Lucas Perez who recently scored a brace in the League Cup.

Le Prof will, unfortunately, have to make do without Francis Coquelin, having injured his knee in the Chelsea clash. Granit Xhaka will likely step in, though fans feel the Swiss ace should be starting every game already.

Aaron Ramsey, Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck remain on the sidelines, with the Welshman expected to return after the upcoming international break.
