Los Blancos a victory away from club record

Real Madrid return to the domestic league after earning a dramatic win in their opening game of the new Champions League season, beating Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

The reigning European champions were initially trailing and thus needed goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata to secure all three points.

Zinedine Zidane will be hoping his boys continue their winning streak this Sunday, as the Spanish giants are one win away from setting a new club record.

Currently on their 15th straight victory, Real Madrid need to triumph over the weekend to set a personal record of most number of consecutive wins in La Liga. Victory will also draw them level with the league record of 16, held by Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona side from 2010/11.

Real Madrid will have to achieve this feat without influential attacker Gareth Bale, unfortunately, with the Welshman a doubt after picking up a hip problem in the Champions League.

Elsewhere, Pepe and James Rodriguez are both expected to start, with the latter coming off the bench to put in a dazzling display in the 2-1 midweek win. Alvaro Morata, who scored the winning goal on Wednesday, is also tipped to start ahead of Karim Benzema.

Sanchez Flores will have an almost complete squad for Sunday, with Javi Fuego the only one to miss out due to his suspension. Diego Lopez will likely start in goal, meaning he will cross paths with his former employers.
