Team news

Juventus

During Massimiliano Allegri's debut term in Turin, Juventus made an impressive run all the way to the 2015 Champions League final, which was their first appearance in 12 years. However, their opponent was Barcelona, and the Blaugrana predictably finished that game on the right side of a 3-1 score-line. Last season, La Vecchia Signora's European campaign ended rather early and unfortunately as they were beaten 6-4 on aggregate by Bayern Munich during the round of 16.

This summer, Juventus have splashed quite a bit of cash in order to further build up their squad, which is noteworthy as Italian sides are not known for spending much in the transfer market these days. Players like Gonzalo Higuain, Miralem Pjanic, and Dani Alves (on a free) are among the new faces that now will be featuring for the Bianconeri this season. Having won the past 5 Serie A titles, the Italian giants have determined that clinching the Scudetto is almost a foregone conclusion. Their goal is quite simple: to fully establish themselves among Europe's elite by ending their 20-plus year wait to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Juventus have started this season off well, with three wins in their past three games. And their new signings have settled in nicely; for instance, Higuain has commenced life in Turin on a great foot with three goals so far. The team will have pretty much everyone available for this match, with the exception of Claudio Marchisio who is still continuing his rehab from a bad knee injury.

Sevilla

Sevilla have won three straight Europa League titles and five overall in just the past decade. Last season they bowed out of the group stages of the Champions League to drop down into their preferred competition, where they have ruled supreme since 2007. Some have indeed wondered if this is their strategy and if they approach each Champions League with the sole objective of finishing third in their group to make sure they can feature in the Europa League, which they have dominated in a very impressive fashion as of late.

And who can blame them? With teams like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and their upcoming opponents Juventus all hoping to knock reigning champs Real Madrid off their pedestal, Los Rojiblancos certainly know the odds are heavily stacked against them. That being said, they will certainly want to start their group stage campaign off well to earn the points they need to achieve their specific goals for this season. Jorge Sampaoli's side have played some very entertaining football - including edging out Espanyol 6-4 in a ten goal thriller and coming from one goal down to beat Las Palmas 2-1 - but they have yet to achieve any sort of consistency as they recorded a scoreless draw between those fixtures.

Sevilla arrive in Turin with a slew of players not available. Benoit Tremoulinas, David Soria and Michael Krohn-Dehli are all out due to injury, whilst Timothée Kolodziejczak is suspended for this fixture, but they will be hoping to become the first team since Udinese in August 2015 to be at Juventus at their home ground.
