The actual culprit was another PSG player...

Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with PSG gave us a lot to talk about, as a late equalizer from Alexis Sanchez handed the Gunners a precious point in their Champions League opener.

However, the biggest talking point came during stoppage time, as an incident between Olivier Giroud and Marco Verratti saw both players get sent off by the referee.

The Frenchman and Italian were already booked when the match official handed them their second yellow cards, a decision which Arsene Wenger admits left him surpised.

Le Prof spoke after the game and admitted that he couldn’t understand the sending offs. He also admitted to Arsenal’s official website that both players admitted their innocence to him.

“I think the first yellow card [for Giroud] was very harsh already, it wasn’t a foul. The second, he tells me he has done nothing at all and Olivier is honest so I believe him. And Verratti told me as well that he has done nothing, so I said look, ‘go together to see the referee and tell him you did nothing’.”

In all fairness to the PSG midfielder, he appeared innocent from the first replay, as the Italian did nothing to merit a yellow card. However, footage later emerged showing that Giroud wasn’t guilty also.

After both fell to the floor, Giroud – upset – appeared to shove Verratti back down to the ground. However, video from another angle shows the striker was shoved into the Italian by none other than Marquinhos.
