Team news

Bayern Munich

Four wins in four games. 15 goals scored. None conceded. Bayern have commenced the nascent campaign in the best way possible, and Carlo Ancelotti's men will have no trouble strolling to a very comfortable three points in this fixture. In fact, die Roten, who have fallen at the semi-finals for the past three seasons, are expected to at least match - and perhaps better - that result this term.

Ancelotti could also become the first coach to ever lead three different clubs to Champions League glory should he help Bayern clinch their first title since 2013. The experienced Italian tactician already has three of Europe's most coveted prizes in his coaching trophy cabinet, and is also notable as he has now managed a club in each of the continent's "Big 5 Leagues".

In terms of personnel, Douglas Costa has now made his full return to the fold and was quite active during Bayern's 2-0 win over Schalke on Friday. The only absentees for the hosts are Arjen Robben, Holger Badstuber, Jerome Boateng, and Kingsley Coman, but even with these players out, it goes without saying that this will be a case of how many goals the German titans can score on their home turf.

Rostov

It may seem as a harsh reality to their fans, but simply put, Rostov have no chance in this fixture. Rather, it will be a mere case of damage control and an attempt to keep the score-line as decent as possible. Rostov might have managed to finish second in the Russian Premier League and managed to beat Dutch powerhouse Ajax and Belgium titans Anderlecht en route to this juncture. But, for all intents and purposes, their Cinderella campaign will be ending in the group stages.

The minnows have only made 10 European appearances in their entire history and will certainly be relishing the chance to lock horns with Europe's biggest sides. However, in a quartet also containing La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and another strong Dutch side in PSV, to say that Rostov are by far the underdogs will be nothing short of an understatement.
