Match stats

  • This will be the third match between Manchester City and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Sky Blues won both of last season's matches in the Group Stage of the UCL, beating them 4-2 at the Etihad while adding a 2-1 win at Borussia Park.

  • Both teams made it to the Group Stage of the competition after winning their respective play-off matches. Manchester City defeated Steaua Bucuresti, while Borussia got past BSC Young Boys with a 9-2 aggregate.

  • Pep Guardiola wasn't able to defeat Borussia Mönchengladbach as Bayern Munich's coach last season, losing one game(3-1) and drawing the other one (1-1).

Team news

Pep Guardiola's crew is having a wonderful start of the season, winning each and every game they've played under the Catalan boss. For this match, the former Bayern tactician will have to make do without Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan, who haven't featured for the team this season. Sergio Aguero is in line to re-appear with the Sky Blues after serving the first of three matches away in the EPL.

The German side has also shown flashes of brilliance during the ongoing 2016-2017 season, even after losing their first match against Freiburg on Saturday. Coach Andre Schubert will have to put the best Starting XI available for his team, considering the absences of key players such as Patrick Herrmann, Alvaro Dominguez and Josip Drmic. 

Despite these absences, the Germans get to this match in high spirits, hoping to shock the heavily-favoured hosts.
