Team news

Italy

This will be the first match for new coach Giampiero Ventura, who replaced the outgoing Antonio Conte earlier this summer. And the ex-Torino's selections raised some eyebrows in Italy, with some criticizing his exclusion of young Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi. Whilst the player's recent injury wouldn't have made him eligible at this point, there are still those who were irritated with Ventura's belief that the youngster wouldn't fit into his tactical line-up.

Several other exclusions include a slew of players from Conte's Euro 2016 squad, including Thiago Motta, Simone Zaza, Stephan El Shaarway, and Emanuele Giaccherini.

One notable inclusion that generated positive buzz was that of Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 17-year-old, who has become a goalkeeping revelation for AC Milan, is the youngest ever player to be called up to the Azzurri in well over a century. However, as to whether he will receive his first senior cap in Thursday's friendly remains to be seen.

Below are Ventura's selections for Italy's upcoming warm-up versus France and their World Cup qualifier against Israel:

France

This will be France's first game following their heartbreaking and unfortunate loss to Portugal in this summer's Euro 2016 final. Les Bleus, as hosts, had a good opportunity to make it a third Euro title - and second on home soil - but now will have to regroup ahead of their upcoming World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign. Like Italy, there are several exclusions from the Euro 2016 squad, with veteran defender Patrice Evra as well as Bacary Sagna, Christophe Jallet, Eliaquim Mangala, Kingsley Coman, and Morgan Schneiderlin all being left out for these two matches.

With skipper Hugo Lloris out due to an injury suffered earlier this season with Tottenham, Deschamps will be fielding Steve Mandanda between the posts.

Here was Deschamps's initial group for the upcoming friendly against Italy and their World Cup qualifier versus Belarus:

However, since then, there have been several modifications, notably replacing injured trio Alexandre Lacazette, Nabil Fekir, and Yohan Cabaye with Dortmund starlet Ousmane Dembélé, Kevin Gameiro and Geoffrey Kondogbia.
