The Spaniard handed Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane an ultimatum along the way.

There have only been two rounds of fixtures in La Liga since the new season kicked off, yet Real Madrid fans have seen enough to be excited over young attacker Marco Asensio.

The 20-year-old had fans head over heels over him after scoring a lovely goal in their UEFA Super Cup triumph over Sevilla, which he followed up with a goal in their opening Spanish Primera Division tie.

Asensio has now gone out an dropped a revelation which will score him more points among the Blancos fans: he snubbed interest from rivals Barcelona for a return to the Bernabeu.

“There was the chance to go to Barca and other teams,” Asensio told El Larguero (as per Football Espana). “I was able to decide and I came to Madrid.”

The young Spaniard spent last season on loan at Espanyol. With the likes of Bale, Benzema, and Cristiano holding down spots in the starting eleven, playing time appeared unlikely for the Mallorca-born starlet.

However, James Rodriguez and Isco have fallen out of favor with Zizou, handing Asensio a golden opportunity to break into the first-team, which he seized. Although the winger is adamant on staying at the Bernabeu, he has made it clear to Zidane that he won’t be a bench-warmer.

“I want to win all the titles and to be an example for the team and the fans. I want my story to be at Real Madrid.

“Before pre-season I made it clear I wanted to be here. If I hadn’t had minutes I would have left.

“After pre-season Zidane told me he wanted me to stay.”

Asensio’s recent exploits with Les Merengues have earned him a national team call-up for La Furia Roja’s upcoming clashes with Belgium and Liechtenstein.
