Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is in England for his medical with Championship club.

Ghanaian star forward Asamoah Gyan could make a shock return to England before the closure of this summer’s transfer window. The former Sunderland forward has been linked with a move to Championship side Reading on a season-long loan deal.

Gyan currently earns £227,000 a week at Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League and it is still unclear which side of the two parties will settle the higher percentage of the player’s expensive wages. When he joined the Chinese outfit back in 2012, he was one of the best paid footballers on the planet but he could face a wage-cut at the Championship side.

And now, the BBC reports that the former Black Cats star is currently having a medical with the English club. The deal could be announced any time before the transfer deadline day if the two parties reach an agreement.

Once touted as one of the most lethal and strikers from the African continent, Gyan started his professional career at the Liberty academy in Ghana in 2003, where he scored 16 goals in 10 appearances. He then joined Serie A outfit Udinese where he made 39 league appearances and scored 11 goals.

He was later sent to Modena on loan and scored 15 league goals in 53 games before joining French side Rennes in 2008. He scored 14 goals in 48 appearances for the French club over two seasons, then switched to Sunderland where he netted 10 times in 34 league appearances for the Black Cats.

In 2011, he was sent to Al Ain in the UAE where he scored a total of 22 goals in 18 appearances during his loan spell and added 73 more goals in 65 appearances after making the move permanent.  But the flamboyant player has not been as successful in China since his move in 2015. He only managed to score seven league goals in 20 appearances for the Red Eagles.
